The Law of First Mention states that what you see first in the Bible sets the precedence for the other mentionings of that topic. According to this principle, the first mention is the simplest form and each time that topic is mentioned again, there is another level of depth added to it. Genesis 1 is the first time we see darkness mentioned in scripture as is light. God wants us to see that the darkness is there; it’s inevitable but also that He has carefully distinguished light from darkness, and He has and has given us authority over the darkness.
